Hyundai Motor Group has introduced new robots at Factorial Seongsu, a robot-friendly office building in Seoul, aimed at enhancing the convenience and efficiency of building services. The deployment includes their DAL-e Delivery robot, and the Parking Robot.
The DAL-e Delivery robot offers a beverage delivery service, operating autonomously within the building. Equipped with AI-driven face identification technology, the robot ensures precise delivery to the intended recipient. The DAL-e can carry up to 16 cups of coffee or items weighing up to 10 kilograms, interfacing seamlessly with elevators and door systems to navigate the building efficiently.
Hyundai WIA’s Parking Robot, another highlight, can autonomously park vehicles up to 2.2 tons. This robot is designed to maneuver in tight spaces, thereby optimizing parking area utilization. It uses cameras and lidar sensors to ensure safe operation, recognizing wheel sizes and positions for accurate vehicle handling.
Dong Jin Hyun, Vice President and Head of Robotics LAB at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation, expressed the Group’s vision for the future: “With DAL-e’s full-fledged delivery service, we aim to make Factorial Seongsu the first building to apply our Robot Total Solution. We plan to expand our robotics services to more buildings, making these technological enhancements a major criterion for space innovation.”
The Group's comprehensive plan includes developing a multi-integrated control system to manage multiple delivery robots, facilitating smart building operations. Additionally, the facial recognition system plays a crucial role in this innovative environment, enhancing security and efficiency.
Shindan Kang, Vice President and Head of Mobility Solution Planning Group at Hyundai WIA, highlighted the successful commercialization of the Parking Robot: “Hyundai WIA’s autonomous Parking Robot was successfully commercialized at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) last year. Its performance and safety were fully verified while preparing for its large-scale introduction to the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) this year.”
The Parking Robot will soon collaborate with Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Automatic Charging Robot (ACR) to provide electric vehicle charging services. This system includes a deep learning-based charging port recognition function, ensuring efficient and safe charging processes.
