In a move set to revolutionize take-out dining, Mendocino Farms announced at the UP.Summit that it will be collaborating with drone delivery service, Zipline, to bring their fresh sandwiches, salads, and more right to your doorstep, starting in 2025.
Mendocino Farms, renowned for its warm and positive dining atmosphere, acknowledges the challenges of ensuring the same high-quality experience for delivery orders. Traffic snarls and misdirections often lead to cold food arrivals, thereby tarnishing the overall customer experience, despite the premium charges on delivery.
Addressing these issues is Zipline's P2 system. Offering real-time tracking, the P2 Zip drone promises speedy deliveries, bypassing traditional on-road hindrances, and ensuring that orders arrive at their destinations in under ten minutes for locations within a 10-mile radius. Utilizing an autonomous droid, the drone hovers safely above a delivery point, carefully lowering its package to a precise location, be it a porch or a patio table.
Moreover, this partnership signals a nod to sustainability. Zipline's lightweight, electric drones not only eliminate the need for a 3,000-pound car but also significantly reduce carbon emissions, with each flight contributing up to 97% fewer emissions compared to conventional delivery methods.
Kevin Miles, CEO of Mendocino Farms, voiced his enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the efficiency and environmental benefits.
"By collaborating with Zipline, we're not only offering speed and convenience but also an eco-friendly approach to our valued customers," Miles commented.
As part of the integration, selected Mendocino Farms outlets will feature Zipline docks. These installations, which allow for quick order loading, have been developed in tandem with restaurant staff for seamless operation, even during peak hours. Further easing the transition, Mendocino Farms will incorporate Zipline's APIs into their current digital systems. This will facilitate easy online order placements and give a comprehensive overview of the delivery operations.
Mendocino Farms' decision to adopt the P2 platform places it alongside a growing list of Zipline partners, such as sweetgreen, GNC, and Michigan Medicine, reinforcing the promising future of drone delivery services in various sectors.
